Paderno

It’s a cooking thing.

As Canadian Tire expanded its owned brand portfolio, we set our sights on filling a gap in the cooking category.

The mandate was clear: create a national brand strong enough to compete with and displace Breville, KitchenAid, All-Clad, Calphalon, and Vitamix.

Benchmark Testing

Our team relocated to an offsite kitchen where we tested nearly every blender, knife, can opener, toaster, kettle, and cutting board we could get our hands on.

Design and Sourcing

After six months and hundreds of potatoes peeled, smoothies blended, carrots diced, and a few band aids, we delivered more than 2,500 pages of design specifications covering 125 products. Each piece was designed to meet the high quality expectations of our customers.

We partnered with some of the world’s best cookware, bakeware, tools, cutlery, and kitchen appliances factories to ensure top tier performance and quality.

The Paderno Power Blender shows the entire journey of product design and development.

Eight years after launch, Paderno has grown 10x from its original sales at Canadian Tire and now generates nearly $50M annually, making it one of Canada’s leading premium kitchen brands.

The brand continues to deliver thoughtfully designed, high-margin products for home cooks who value the craft, the process, and the tools as much as the final results.

It’s a cooking thing.

Design Leader

In 2022, I became Manager of the Indoor Cooking team, shifting from designing products myself to shaping the vision, strategy, and creative direction behind our work.

I sought out designers and engineers who not only had the technical skills, but also a true passion for cooking, knowing that the best results come from teams inspired by the products they create.

I focused on building a strong design team so they could deliver outstanding products.
